3 Universities To Have The Ministry Of Agriculture Overseeing Them.

The federal government of Nigeria is ready to give the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development the 3 universities of agriculture established in 1992.
This was made known yesterday, January 31, by Chief Audu Ogbeh, the minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, in Abuja at a stakeholders' meeting that involved the vice-chancellors and pro-chancellors of the universities.
Universities of agriculture are established to help boost the agricultural sector of the economy and to contribute positively to the development of the nation.
Your domiciliation in this ministry is a commendable act by the Federal Government of Nigeria, based on sound reasoning and logic,” the minister said.
Ogbeh also made it known there that only students interested in becoming farmers should be admitted into the universities of agriculture. Mohammed Monguno, the chairman house committee on agriculture commended the move.
He suggested that there should be an executive bill for the national commission for universities of agriculture to supervise the institution.
The affected universities of agriculture are:
1. Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Ogun State.
2. Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi, Benue State.
3. Micheal Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike, Abia State.
The universities mentioned above will be returned to the ministry of agriculture.
